I'm back from my hiatus, having gone through hospital visits and general maintenance of my health. And when do I decide my recovery is good enough to get back to blogging? The holiday shopping season. Now for many of you this is a time where you are bombarded with holiday advertising, trying to fit gift shopping into your schedule, and figuring out what's right for who. Well, after a little bit of searching I happened across a fun little gem of a site that is just for those of you who don't know what to get. I would personally never use this, but the site is fantastically designer friendly for creating a "gift book" tailored to any person who just doesn't give the hints you need to shop for them. Functionality, low, but the structure is innovative. The site starts with a minor splash page, never warranted, but not obtrusive since all the options including logging in will direct you to the main page. From there, everything operates using a sleek system of dynamic pop-ups that fits perfectly in style with the shopping season, without being overly gaudy like our local Walmart. Everything is organized by image, a fairly new trend which allows for easier touch screen use, though the lack of text associated with each image, even while hovering over the link, is something of a loss on their part. But they more than make up for it with a sidebar search system and in-content details which can be moved through by keyboard as well as by mouse or touch. All in all a well made site, appealing, and another wonderful gimmick for the holiday season.
More next week pending the extent of my recovery.
